The Tree Appreciation Club in collaboration with School of Agriculture of Mohan Babu University organized a storytelling session titled “Myths, Legends, and Folklore of Indian Trees” on the 24th of February from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the MBU Campus. The event aimed to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the cultural, historical, and spiritual significance of trees in Indian traditions through captivating narratives and discussions.
The event was organized by the faculty coordinator Dr. K. Mallikarjuna (esteemed professor of School of Agriculture, MBU). The session witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 25 students.
The session explored fascinating stories about sacred trees such as the Peepal, Banyan, Neem, Ashoka, Mango, Sandalwood, and Parijata, highlighting their revered status in Indian mythology and folklore. Each tree carries a rich legacy interwoven with religious, medicinal, and ecological importance. Participants were engrossed in tales that illustrated the roles these trees have played in shaping Indian traditions, rituals, and beliefs. Adding to the interactive nature of the event, attendees actively shared their knowledge and regional legends associated with various trees. A lively quiz session further enhanced engagement, allowing participants to test their understanding and learn new facts in an enjoyable manner. The discussion also emphasized the importance of conservation, reinforcing how these trees are not just symbols of heritage but vital to the environment.
