Transforming Agriculture: Creative Solutions for Smarter Farming

April 16

The Farm Machinery Club of Mohan Babu University conducted an event titled “Innovative Approaches in Farm Mechanization: Transforming Agriculture through Technology” on 16th April 2025 from 10.00 A.M. to 12.00 P.M. at Room No. 1704 in the School of Agriculture. The event aimed to encourage students to think innovatively and apply their technical knowledge to solve practical problems faced by farmers.

The session witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 46 students, including 38 students from the School of Agriculture and 8 students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The speakers emphasized

During the session, students presented several creative ideas. One such idea was a winnowing tool specially designed for small and marginal farmers, which helps in cleaning threshed produce easily and efficiently, reducing manual effort and grain loss. Another interesting innovation was a robot developed to identify nutrients in soil, which can help farmers understand soil health and give proper recommendations for fertilizer application, thus promoting precision farming.

Students also demonstrated an automatic fertigation system, which supplies water and nutrients to crops automatically based on their requirements, saving both time and resources. In addition, a micro sprayer for controlled chemical application was showcased, which ensures that pesticides or fertilizers are sprayed only where needed, reducing wastage and protecting the environment. And further, the presenters emphasized the challenges involved, especially in the Indian context.  The participants were actively involved in discussing, and the session ended with an interactive discussion, where the presenters answered the queries and received appreciation and suggestions from faculty members and participants. Finally, D. Rahul, Firosha, K. Jahnavi and A. Jahnavi were declared prize winners for their best creative ideas.

Overall, the activity was a great platform for students to showcase their ideas and highlighted the importance of technology in improving agricultural practices in our country.
