Polyhouse Construction Workshop: From Theory to Field Application

About the Event
The Farm Machinery Club, the School of Agriculture organized an activity titled “On-Farm Polyhouse Construction” on 24 March 2026. It took place near Valmar Hostel. The activity aimed to provide students with practical exposure to polyhouse construction and strengthen their understanding of structural design and assessment methods.
Structures of Polyhouse
Dr. Gorla Gayathri, Assistant Professor, coordinated the event with active support from faculty members. A total of 40 students participated in the activity with great enthusiasm. The resource person, Mr. Sandeep Kannan, Irrigation Officer at MBU, explained the structural components and layout of the polyhouse. He demonstrated methods for design verification, including alignment checks, stability assessment, and material installation. Students interacted actively, asked questions, and gained insights into real-time construction challenges. The session bridged theoretical knowledge with practical application, making the learning experience highly valuable.
Takeaways and Feedback
The students appreciated the hands-on exposure and expressed that the activity was informative and engaging. They gained practical knowledge of polyhouse construction and understood the importance of structural stability. They also valued the opportunity to learn about material usage and installation techniques. The Feedback highlighted that the session improved awareness of challenges in protected cultivation infrastructure. The students felt motivated to apply these skills in future agricultural practices and requested more field-based activities. The organizers expressed gratitude to the resource person and participants for their active involvement. They emphasized that the activity successfully enhanced students’ practical knowledge and strengthened their confidence in handling real-time agricultural structures.
