Plant Health Club Insightful Field Visit, “Plant Health Monitoring Using Digital Techniques”

February 21

The Plant Health Club of Mohan Babu University conducted a field event titled “Plant Health Monitoring using Digital Techniques” on 21st February 2025 from 2.30 to 3.30 P.M at Agriculture field near V Hostel. The event aimed to familiarize students with advanced digital tools for real-time monitoring of plant health, particularly in identifying pests and diseases affecting crops. The primary goal of this event was to introduce students to modern digital techniques such as image recognition technology for precise identification of plant diseases and pests. By leveraging these tools, students gained hands-on experience in sustainable crop management practices.

The event was organized by the faculty coordinator, Dr. M.Kashi Rao ( esteemed professor of School of Agriculture, MBU). The event witnessed the active participation of 30 students.

During the visit, students were trained in using Plantix and eSAP, two cutting-edge digital platforms widely utilized for plant health monitoring. These tools facilitate: Rapid identification of plant diseases and pests, Image-based recognition for accurate diagnosis, Timely recommendations for preventive and corrective measures. As part of the practical session, students closely monitored the health of various crops and successfully identified the following issues: Tomato Fruit Borer (Helicoverpa armigera) infestation in tomato plants, Alternaria Blight (Alternaria solani) affecting chilli crops. Through digital analysis, students were able to detect the symptoms early, enhancing their understanding of disease progression and the potential impact on crop yield. The use of digital techniques such as Plan tix and eSAP empowers farmers and agricultural professionals with accurate disease and pest identification, timely interventions to minimize crop losses and improved decision-making for better crop management and yield enhancement.

The event provided an enriching learning experience for students, equipping them with essential skills to integrate technology into sustainable agricultural practices. By adopting digital monitoring tools, future agronomists and farmers can revolutionize plant health management, ensuring increased productivity and resilience against crop diseases.

The Plant Health Club extends gratitude to all participants and faculty members for their active involvement, making this initiative a resounding success.
