International Women’s Day: Promoting Women’s Healthcare and Awareness

The Nutrition and Dietetics Club of M B School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, MBU, organized an awareness program celebrating International Women’s Day with a theme: “Accelerate Action Because Equality Can’t Wait” on March 11, 2025. The event aimed to educate students and faculty on women’s health, emphasizing preventive healthcare measures and the role of pharmacy professionals in promoting early diagnosis and patient counselling.

The program commenced at 3:00 PM in the Seminar Hall—I of the New Academic Block with an introductory speech by Dr. B.P. Mallikarjuna, Dean of MBSPS. He welcomed the attendees and highlighted the importance of women’s health and equality in healthcare access.

Following the introduction, Dr. Akhila, former Associate Professor of OBG at SPMCW-SVIMS, Tirupati, delivered a guest lecture on women’s healthcare. Her insightful presentation focused on the significance of HPV vaccination in preventing cervical cancer and the importance of Pap smear tests for early detection. She also emphasized the need to raise awareness about cervical cancer and its prevention, highlighting the theme “Prevention is Better than Cure” to encourage proactive healthcare measures.

Her lecture provided valuable knowledge to students and faculty, reinforcing the need for regular screenings and preventive care. Dr. Venkateswara Rao, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, delivered a keynote address, emphasizing the role of pharmacy and Pharm.D. students in cancer awareness and patient counselling. He discussed the leading causes of cancer and emphasized the importance of early diagnosis in improving patient outcomes. Additionally, he highlighted motivation and awareness strategies for healthcare professionals to enhance their engagement in cancer prevention and treatment. Furthermore, he stressed the necessity of maintaining proper channels for effective patient counselling, ensuring that individuals receive accurate information and support throughout their healthcare journey.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with 150 students and 10 staff members attending the session. The interactive discussions and Q&A sessions allowed attendees to clarify doubts and gain more profound insights into women’s health and preventive care.

The International Women’s Day awareness program successfully educated students and faculty on crucial aspects of women’s healthcare. The event reinforced the importance of early diagnosis, preventive measures, and the role of pharmacy professionals in patient counselling. The discussions and expert insights provided a strong foundation for future healthcare initiatives, ensuring that students are well-equipped to contribute to women’s health awareness and advocacy.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the speakers, organizers, and attendees for their active participation and commitment to promoting healthcare equality.
