Debate on Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education
About the Event
The Debate Society of MBU organized a debate on “Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education: Revolutionizing Learning or Undermining Critical Thinking?” on 18 August 2026. The event was conducted in Room No. 1805, MBA Block. The debate aimed to provide students with a platform to critically examine the role of AI in higher education. It encouraged them to explore opportunities and challenges in teaching, learning, assessment, and academic research.
Positive and Negative Implications of AI in education
Dr. Sudipta Ghosh, Assistant Professor, Department of English, coordinated the event. A total of 48 BCA students participated in the debate. The participants presented arguments on both sides of the topic. Some students highlighted the benefits of AI in personalized learning, quick access to information, coding assistance, and productivity improvement. Others raised concerns about overdependence, reduced originality, plagiarism, and diminished independent thinking. The debate helped students analyze both positive and negative implications of AI in education.

Students reported that the debate improved their critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills. They gained awareness of academic integrity, originality, and responsible use of AI tools. The activity strengthened their communication, public speaking, and argumentation abilities. Participants appreciated the opportunity to express independent opinions and respond to opposing viewpoints.
