Tree Appreciation Club Sparks Curiosity with Documentary Screening

October 15

The Tree Appreciation Club of the Department of Horticulture, School of Agriculture organized a thoughtful documentary screening titled “The Hidden Life of Trees” on 15th October 2025. The event took place at the Mini Auditorium from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The screening brought together students who were eager to explore the unseen world of trees and their silent, intelligent ways of living.

The main aim of the event was to help students understand how trees communicate, support each other, and maintain balance in forest ecosystems. It was designed to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity, forest conservation, and the deep interconnection between living organisms in nature. The event also encouraged students to look at trees not just as plants, but as living communities with their own ways of sharing, caring, and surviving.

The event was coordinated by Dr. K. Mallikarjuna, Assistant Professor in the Department of Horticulture. A total of 52 students participated in the session. The students showed great interest and curiosity throughout the screening. Their attentiveness and thoughtful reflections during the post-screening discussion showed how deeply the documentary had touched them.

The documentary, based on Peter Wohlleben’s bestselling book, revealed fascinating facts about how trees send signals through their roots, share nutrients, and protect one another. The screening was followed by a short interactive discussion where students shared their thoughts on forest life, sustainability, and the role of humans in protecting nature. The session created a calm and reflective atmosphere, encouraging students to think deeply about the natural world around them.

Participants walked away with a renewed sense of respect for trees and the environment. They gained insights into forest ecology, tree behaviour, and the importance of sustainable living. The event also sparked curiosity and a sense of responsibility among students to take part in more eco-awareness activities in the future.

The organizers expressed heartfelt thanks to all the students for their active participation and thoughtful engagement. They appreciated the Tree Appreciation Club for creating such a meaningful platform that blended learning with environmental consciousness.
