Code Together, Grow Together: Git & GitHub in Practice

October 15

The FOSS Club, the School of Computing and Data Science of MBU, organized a hands-on workshop titled “Git and GitHub: Version Control and Collaborative Development” on 15 October 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. The session brought together enthusiastic learners for practical learning and technical exploration. The workshop was designed to introduce participants to the essentials of version control and collaborative software development. With Git and GitHub becoming core tools in both academic and industry settings, the session aimed to equip students, faculty, and researchers with the skills needed to manage code efficiently, work in teams, and contribute to open-source projects with confidence.

The event was coordinated by Ms. T. Ramya, Assistant Professor, School of Computing and Data Science. A total of 45 participants attended the session, showing keen interest and active involvement throughout. Their engagement was evident in the way they responded to tasks, asked questions, and collaborated during hands-on exercises.

Mr. Yogendra Prasad, Assistant Professor in the Department of Data Science, explained key concepts such as initializing repositories, committing changes, branching, merging, and resolving conflicts. Participants also explored GitHub’s collaborative features like pull requests, issue tracking, and project boards. The session was interactive, with real-time demonstrations and guided practice that helped learners connect theory with application.

By the end of the workshop, participants had gained a solid understanding of version control workflows and how Git and GitHub can streamline project development. They learned the importance of clean code practices, documentation, and teamwork. Many expressed excitement about applying these tools in their academic projects and future careers.

The organizers extended heartfelt thanks to all participants for their enthusiastic presence and active contributions. The session not only strengthened technical skills but also fostered a spirit of collaboration and innovation.

Participants were fully immersed in deciphering clean code practices, documentation providing by the presenter.

While students are actively engaged in the session, the resource person provides general picture of the workshop and guides the participants through the PowerPoint presentation.
