The Debate Society of MBUniversity organized a thought-provoking debate competition on September 17, 2025, from 2:45 PM to 4:30 PM at Room No. 4101 in the New Academic Block. The event was titled “Is Academic Pressure Affecting Student Wellness?” and brought together students from various branches to share their views on a topic that deeply resonates with student life and well-being.
The main aim of the event was to encourage students to think critically, speak confidently, and express their opinions on a contemporary issue. The event also aimed to build public speaking skills and foster a spirit of constructive dialogue.
The debate was coordinated by Dr. Sudipta Ghosh, Assistant Professor from the Department of English, who guided the event with care and encouragement. A total of 41 B.Tech. students from various branches participated in the competition. The students performed with great enthusiasm, presenting strong arguments both in support of and against the motion. Their clarity, confidence, and respectful engagement made the debate lively and impactful.
The activity was conducted in a structured format, allowing each participant to present their views within a set time. Those in favor of the motion spoke about how academic pressure can lead to stress, anxiety, and burnout. Others argued that academic challenges help build resilience and prepare students for future responsibilities. The debate brought out a wide range of perspectives and encouraged everyone to think deeply about the issue.
Participants gained valuable insights from the event. They improved their communication and presentation skills, learned to listen and respond thoughtfully, and understood the importance of balancing academic goals with mental wellness. The event also highlighted the need for supportive academic policies and better access to counseling and time management resources.
At the end of the session, the organizers expressed heartfelt thanks to all the participants for their active involvement and thoughtful contributions. Their voices and ideas made the event a meaningful success, and the Debate Society looks forward to hosting more such platforms for open and respectful dialogue.
