The Agronomy Club, the School of Agriculture of MBU, organized a practical and insightful activity titled “Beneath Our Feet – Hands-on Soil Health Workshop” on 20th September 2025. The event was held at the School of Agriculture Farm in Narasingapuram from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. It brought together students from the School of Agriculture for an engaging session focused on understanding the vital role of soil in sustainable farming.
The main aim of the workshop was to create awareness about soil health and its importance in long-term agricultural productivity. The session was designed to help students gain practical knowledge about soil properties, management techniques, and eco-friendly practices that support healthy soil and better crop outcomes. It also encouraged students to think about climate-resilient farming and sustainable land use.
The activity was coordinated by Mr. D. Ramamohan Reddy, Assistant Professor, Department of Agronomy. A total of 48 students participated actively in the workshop. They showed great interest and enthusiasm throughout the session, engaging in discussions, asking questions, and performing hands-on tasks with focus and curiosity.
The workshop included several interactive components. Students learned how to analyze soil texture, determine pH levels, estimate organic matter, and study soil profiles visually. Demonstrations were given on composting methods, bio-fertilizer applications, and the use of cover crops to improve soil health. Group activities encouraged students to explore innovative soil management practices and discuss real-world challenges like erosion, salinity, and nutrient loss.
Participants took away valuable lessons from the session. They developed skills in basic soil testing and interpretation, gained awareness about organic amendments and microbial inoculants, and understood the importance of adopting sustainable practices in their future farming ventures. The workshop helped them connect theory with practice and inspired them to become responsible agronomists.
At the end of the session, the organizers expressed heartfelt thanks to all the participants for their active involvement and positive response. They appreciated the students’ eagerness to learn and contribute to sustainable agriculture.
