The Tree Appreciation Club, the Department of Horticulture, School of Agriculture, organized a refreshing event titled “Nature Walk – Tree Identification” on 21 August 2025. Held at the MBU campus from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm, the walk invited students to step outdoors and connect with the greenery around them. Its main goal was to help them recognize and appreciate the trees that surround them every day. By learning to identify trees through their leaves, bark, and seeds, students were encouraged to build a deeper understanding of nature’s quiet wisdom.
The event was specially designed for B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture students. Dr. K. Mallikarjuna, Assistant Professor, coordinated the event with great enthusiasm and care. A total of 40 students joined the activity and showed keen interest throughout of it. They listened attentively, asked thoughtful questions, and actively participated in identifying various tree species.
During the walk, students explored the campus and observed trees like Plumeria, neem, amaltas, ficus, banyan, pagoda, and mango. Dr. Mallikarjuna guided them in spotting unique features and shared stories about each tree’s ecological role. The walk turned into a lively learning experience, blending science with curiosity and appreciation.
By the end of the session, students had gained practical skills in tree identification. They sharpened their observation and classification abilities, and many expressed a newfound respect for the trees they pass by every day. The walk also sparked conversations about biodiversity, conservation, and the importance of protecting green spaces.
The organizers thanked all the participants for their active involvement and positive spirit. Their enthusiasm made the event truly memorable and reinforced the joy of learning in nature’s classroom.
