Tiny Insects, Big Lessons: Exploring Insect Diversity

August 21

The Plant Health Club, the School of Agriculture of MBU, organized an engaging event, “Insect Collection,” on 21st August 2025, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, in the university fields and nearby areas. The event was designed to give students a hands-on experience with nature, right in their own campus environment. The main aim of the activity was to help students explore the diversity of insects around them, understand how these tiny creatures contribute to the health of our ecosystems, and learn why they matter in sustainable farming and biodiversity conservation.

Under the guidance of Dr. P. Maheswara Reddy, the club coordinator, a total of 38 enthusiastic students from III B.Sc. actively took part in the event. With great energy and curiosity, they moved through the fields, using sweep nets, aspirators, and hand collection methods to gather different types of insects.

The activity was not just about collecting insects—it was about learning through doing. Students observed pollinators, decomposers, and natural pest controllers in action. They saw firsthand how insects play a vital role in keeping ecosystems balanced and healthy. The experience helped them connect classroom lessons with real-world applications, making learning more meaningful and memorable.

By the end of the session, students had gained valuable field skills and a deeper appreciation for insect life. They learned to identify various insect groups and understood how these creatures support agriculture and the environment. The event also sparked thoughtful discussions about sustainability and conservation.

The Club coordinator sincerely thanked all the participants for their active involvement and positive spirit. Their curiosity and teamwork made the event a success and reinforced the club’s mission to promote practical learning and environmental awareness.
