Turning Ideas into Power: A Wind Energy Design Competition

September 25

The SPIKES Club, the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of MBU, organized an engaging hands-on event titled “Breezing into Energy” on 25th September 2025 in the EEE laboratory. The event brought together final-year students for a practical challenge focused on wind energy. The atmosphere was lively and focused, with students eager to apply their classroom learning to a real-world task.

The main aim of the event was to help students strengthen their engineering design thinking and teamwork while solving a practical energy problem. It encouraged them to build small wind turbines using their knowledge of electrical machines, aerodynamics, and energy conversion. The challenge also focused on improving their communication skills through structured presentations and peer feedback.

Dr. G. Harikrishnan, Associate Professor, coordinated the event with great care and enthusiasm. A total of 50 students participated, divided into 10 teams of five. Each team worked with dedication, showing strong collaboration and problem-solving skills. Their energy and commitment were evident throughout the day, from the design phase to the final presentations.

The activity was designed to be both educational and enjoyable. Students had to make quick decisions, balance technical trade-offs, and test their prototypes under real conditions. The judging panel appreciated the creativity and clarity in the presentations. The event was conducted smoothly with support from faculty and lab staff, creating a positive and encouraging environment for all.

Participants walked away with valuable lessons. They gained confidence in presenting technical ideas, learned to think critically, and experienced the joy of working as a team. Many expressed that the event helped them connect theory with practice and made them feel more prepared for future engineering challenges.

At the end of the program, the organizers thanked all the participants for their active involvement and sincere efforts. The SPIKES Club expressed heartfelt appreciation to the students, faculty, and staff who contributed to the success of the event. It was a proud moment for everyone involved, and the event stood as a fine example of learning through doing.
