Strengthening analytical skills and communication through debates

The Debate Society organized a debate competition on 28 January 2026 at Room No. 507, MNS Block from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. It focused on the theme “Privacy in the Digital Era: Is Data Protection Possible in India?”. The aim was to encourage critical thinking, improve public speaking, and raise awareness about privacy and data protection issues in India.

Coordinator and Participants

Dr. Sudipta Ghosh, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, coordinated the event. A total of 48 B.Tech. students from DS, CSE, and CS departments participated with enthusiasm. They presented strong arguments both supporting and opposing the motion. The competition followed structured debating rules and judges assessed participants on clarity, reasoning, presentation, and rebuttal. The event highlighted the importance of data privacy and legal safeguards in India.

Takeaways and Feedback

Students gained valuable insights into data privacy laws, cybersecurity, and ethical technology practices. They improved their debating and public speaking skills while learning to balance diverse viewpoints. Feedback from participants was highly positive, with many appreciating the relevance of the topic. Students expressed interest in more debates on emerging issues and suggested expanding participation to inter-university levels. The Debate Society expressed gratitude to all participants and attendees for making the event successful. The organizers felt proud to create a platform for meaningful dialogue and responsible digital citizenship.
