Spark & Steel: Learning the Art of Welding in Automotive Applications

Event Perspective
The Automotive Club of MBU organized an event “Spark & Steel – Welding for Automotive Applications” on 16 March 2026. It aimed to introduce students to welding techniques used in automotive manufacturing. The session focused on bridging theoretical knowledge with practical applications in the field of welding technology.
Demonstrations and Discussions
Dr. Gowthami Duttaluru, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, coordinated the event. A total of 37 B.Tech Mechanical Engineering students participated actively in the program. The student coordinator Mr. Lokesh from VI Semester assisted in managing the session smoothly. The event included demonstrations and discussions on arc welding, MIG welding, and TIG welding. Students learned how welding contributes to strength, durability, and safety in automotive components. The session emphasized industry practices, safety measures, and the demand for skilled professionals in manufacturing.
Takeaways by the participants
The students gained awareness about the importance of welding in automotive applications. They also appreciated the practical insights shared on different welding processes. Moreover, they understood how welding supports innovation, infrastructure, and sustainable engineering practices. The feedback highlighted that the event was informative, engaging, and encouraged students to explore advanced manufacturing technologies. The interactive discussions improved their confidence and motivated them to develop technical skills relevant to the automotive industry. The organizers expressed gratitude to all participants for their active involvement. The event successfully achieved its objective of connecting classroom learning with industrial practices. The Automotive Club looks forward to organizing more such sessions that inspire students to pursue technical excellence in engineering.
