Showcasing Creativity in Sustainability through Focused Flash Presentations

The Science Club, the Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences, the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences of MBU, organized the Flash Presentation Contest – Biology Edition on 15th December 2025. The event took place in Room Number 716, MNS Block, and was designed exclusively for IV Semester B.Sc. Biotechnology students. The contest created an engaging atmosphere where students could showcase their knowledge and creativity in a short, impactful format.
The main aim of the contest was to help students understand how biological concepts can be applied to solve global sustainability challenges. The event encouraged participants to think beyond textbooks and connect their academic learning with real-world issues. It also focused on improving scientific communication skills, critical thinking, and confidence in public speaking.
The contest was coordinated by Ms. S. Vasiha Anjum, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences. A total of 17 students actively took part in the competition. Each participant prepared colourful A4 flash cards to highlight a chosen biology topic. The students performed with enthusiasm, presenting their ideas clearly and confidently. Their ability to explain complex concepts in a concise manner reflected both preparation and creativity.
The activity was conducted in a lively and interactive way. Students used flash cards as visual aids to make their presentations engaging and easy to follow. Each presentation was short and focused, where participants explained the biological concept, its relevance to the chosen SDG, and its importance in addressing sustainability challenges. The contest promoted visual learning and encouraged students to connect classroom knowledge with practical applications in health, environment, biotechnology, and sustainability.
The key takeaways for the participants were significant. They learned how to relate biological concepts to global goals such as health, food security, clean water, climate action, and innovation. The contest helped them build confidence in presenting complex topics concisely and creatively. It also fostered peer learning, critical thinking, and awareness of how biotechnology can contribute to solving pressing global issues. Students left the event with a deeper understanding of how their academic knowledge can be applied to real-world challenges.
At the end of the program, the organizers expressed heartfelt gratitude to the participants, faculty members, and coordinators for their active involvement. The event was appreciated for its smooth organization and meaningful impact, leaving students motivated to explore biology as a tool for sustainable development and global citizenship.
