Safe Practices in Advanced Imaging: Student Awareness Program

December 22, 2025

The Imaging Squad Club, the School of Paramedical, Allied and Health Care Sciences, organized a special awareness session on “MRI Safety” on 22nd December 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. at the department.  The program brought together students and faculty to focus on safe practices in advanced imaging. The aim of the session was to educate students about the protocols and precautions that must be followed in MRI suites. While MRI is a radiation‑free diagnostic tool, its strong magnetic field can be dangerous if safety rules are ignored. The event highlighted how proper screening, teamwork, and vigilance can prevent accidents and protect both patients and healthcare workers. It also encouraged students to stay updated with international safety guidelines and technological advancements in imaging.

The program was coordinated by Ms. G. Moohini Latha, Assistant Professor and Convener of the Imaging Squad Club. She guided the session with clarity, motivating students to participate actively. A total of 53 students took part in the event, preparing posters, presentations, and demonstrations on key topics such as MRI zones, patient screening, contraindications, implant safety, and emergency preparedness. Their performance was marked by enthusiasm, confidence, and teamwork, which impressed the faculty members present.

The activities were conducted in an engaging and interactive manner. Students explained the importance of removing metallic objects, identifying unsafe implants, and preventing projectile accidents. They demonstrated the use of MRI safety checklists and role‑played scenarios to show how technologists should communicate with anxious patients or handle pediatric cases. A quiz and puzzle challenge added excitement, testing their knowledge of MRI hazards and emergency responses. Winners were appreciated, and all participants gained practical insights through case‑based discussions and real‑life examples.

The key takeaway for students was a deeper understanding of MRI safety as a shared responsibility. They learned how careful screening, clear communication, and teamwork can ensure patient comfort and prevent accidents. The session also helped them build confidence in applying safety protocols and strengthened their sense of professional responsibility.

Ms. G. Moohini Latha, the event coordinator, expressed her heart-felt gratitude to Mr. Manas Chakravarthy, the faculty team, and the students for their active involvement. She reminded everyone that MRI safety is not just a rule but a commitment to protecting patients, staff, and equipment. The program left participants inspired to adopt a safety‑first approach in their future careers.

The student coordinators organized a quiz competition and puzzle challenge to assess participants’ understanding of MRI hazards and emergency response protocols.

The participants were deeply engaged, thinking quickly and contributing thoughtful answers throughout the quiz.
