Rice Without Puddles: A Hands-On Journey into Aerobic Cultivation

August 21

The Agronomy Club of the School of Agriculture organized a practical learning event titled “Rice without Puddles: Aerobic Cultivation in Student Fields” on 21st August 2025. The activity took place from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the School of Agriculture Farm, Narasingapuram. It was designed to give students a real-time experience of growing rice using water-saving methods. The event aimed to raise awareness about sustainable rice cultivation practices, especially in the face of growing water scarcity. Students were introduced to aerobic rice farming—a method that uses well-drained soils instead of traditional flooded fields.

Mr. D. Ramamohan Reddy, Assistant Professor, coordinated the event with great enthusiasm. A total of 45 students actively participated, showing keen interest and teamwork throughout the session. They engaged in every step of the process, from preparing the field to learning about pest and disease management.

During the activity, students were guided through key cultivation practices such as field preparation, variety selection, sowing methods, nutrient and water management, weed control, and harvesting. The hands-on approach helped them grasp the differences between aerobic and traditional puddled rice farming.

By the end of the session, students had gained practical knowledge and a deeper appreciation for sustainable farming. They learned how to manage resources wisely and saw how small changes in technique can make a big impact on the environment and crop health.

The organizers expressed heartfelt thanks to all the participants for their active involvement and positive spirit. Their curiosity and commitment made the event a meaningful step toward eco-friendly agriculture.

The Agriculture students are in action, gaining gaining hands-on experience in the field.
