Awareness and Advocacy for the Girl Child

The Pharma Club of the School of Pharmacy, MBU organized an event to mark National Girl Child Day on 24th January in the Pharmacy Block The event was aimed at spreading awareness about the rights and dignity of the girl child, while also highlighting the importance of education, health, and equality for women. It sought to remind students of their social responsibility as future healthcare professionals and to encourage them to stand against discrimination in all forms.

Student Participation and Inspiring Speeches

Dr. V. Hemalatha coordinated the event with dedication, and students participated with enthusiasm. Ms. Keerthi of II Pharm D and Ms. Rithika of I B. Pharm delivered speeches that captured the essence of the day. They spoke about the importance of educating girls, ensuring equal access to healthcare, and addressing the challenges faced by women in society. Their words were heartfelt and inspiring, and the audience responded with keen attention. The active involvement of students reflected their commitment to the values being discussed. The highlight of the program was the Gender Equality Pledge. After the speeches, all students stood together to take the pledge, promising to respect and protect the rights of girls and women. They pledged to support education for the girl child, encourage equal access to healthcare and nutrition, oppose gender-based discrimination and violence, and act responsibly as future pharmacists in advocating women’s health and empowerment. This collective activity created a strong sense of unity and responsibility among the participants.

Gender Equality Pledge and Key Takeaways

The key takeaways for the students were profound. They gained a deeper understanding of the importance of girl child education and empowerment, and they were sensitized to the role of healthcare professionals in promoting equality. The pledge instilled in them a sense of ethical and social responsibility, encouraging them to adopt inclusive and respectful attitudes in their future practice. The event also strengthened the institution’s contribution to national priorities and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

At the close of the program, the organizers expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the participants for their active involvement. They appreciated the enthusiasm shown by the students and acknowledged the collective spirit that made the event successful.
