Empowering Minds Through Diagrams: A Celebration of Visual Reasoning

August 19

The Automotive Club, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, organized an engaging event titled “Diagrammatic Reasoning” on August 19, 2025, from 8:55 AM to 10:00 AM at Room No. 2603 in the Mechanical Engg. Block. The session brought together students from mechanical and civil engineering streams, creating a vibrant space for collaborative learning and visual problem-solving. The event was designed to help students strengthen their visual thinking and analytical skills. By focusing on diagrammatic reasoning, the activity aimed to improve how students interpret visual information, break down complex problems, and arrive at creative solutions.

The event was coordinated by Dr. N. Anantha Krishna and Dr. S. Lakshmi Narayana, both associate professors from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, along with student coordinator Mr. M. Athik from the final year. Their guidance and energy helped make the session smooth, interactive, and impactful. Over 60 students participated enthusiastically, including those from II B.Tech. I Semester (Mechanical and Civil) and IV B.Tech I Semester (Mechanical). Students were grouped to encourage teamwork and idea sharing.

The session began with a clear briefing on the goals of the activity, highlighting the role of visual cognition and part-whole thinking in solving real-world problems. Each group was given diagram-based challenges to analyze and discuss. Mr. Athik also shared insights on how visual thinking plays a key role in engineering reasoning. The groups then presented their ideas and solutions, sparking thoughtful discussions and peer learning.

Participants walked away with a more profound understanding of how diagrams can simplify complex ideas. They learned to think abstractly, communicate visually, and solve problems more efficiently—skills that will serve them well in both academics and professional life.

The event concluded on a high note, with faculty coordinators expressing heartfelt thanks to all participants and student facilitators. Group IV, comprising final-year students, emerged as winners. The session was not just educational—it was inspiring, leaving everyone with a renewed appreciation for the power of visual reasoning.

The participants attentively immersed themselves in the compelling presentation.
The participants, along with the faculty coordinator, were deeply engaged in the presentation delivered by a final-year student
