Empowering Future Pharmacists in Diabetes Management

November 14, 2025

The Nutrition Club of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of MBU, organized an awareness event on “World Diabetes Day” on 14th November at the Drug Information Centre (DIC), SVIMS Hospital. The program was held from 2:00 Pm to 4:30 PM and brought together students and faculty to discuss the importance of diabetes care and healthy lifestyle practices. The event created a thoughtful space for learning and sharing ideas related to diabetes management.

The main aim of the event was to help students understand the role of diet, medication, and lifestyle in managing diabetes, especially in workplace settings. It focused on building awareness about the challenges faced by diabetic individuals and how proper nutrition and safe drug use can make a big difference in their daily lives. The session also encouraged students to think about how they, as future pharmacists, can support diabetic patients through education and care.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Hari V, Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology. A total of 30 Pharma D students participated actively in the session. They showed great interest and involvement throughout the discussions. The students confidently shared their thoughts, asked questions, and contributed to the conversation with enthusiasm and curiosity.

During the session, several important topics were covered. These included maintaining a proper diet at the workplace, understanding the difficulties faced by diabetic individuals, and learning how to manage those challenges through smart dietary choices. The students also discussed the safe use of medications, necessary precautions, and how to reduce side effects. The session was interactive, with students engaging in group discussions and sharing real-life examples.

The participants gained valuable insights into the connection between food, health, and medicine. They learned how to design healthy diets, understand drug safety, and promote wellness in professional environments. Many students expressed interest in creating awareness materials like posters and charts to educate others. The event also helped them build skills in communication, teamwork, and patient counselling.

At the end of the event, the organizers expressed their heartfelt thanks to all the participants for their active involvement. They appreciated the students’ eagerness to learn and contribute. The session ended on a positive note, with everyone feeling more informed, inspired, and motivated to support diabetes care in their future roles as healthcare professionals.
