Educate, Empower, Prevent: A Seminar on Lung Cancer Awareness

August 1

The Pharma Club, School of Pharmacy, MBU, successfully organized a seminar titled “World Lung Cancer Day” on August 1, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM in the Pharmacy Block. The event aimed to educate and sensitize pharmacy students about the prevalence of lung cancer, the importance of early detection, and the role of advanced treatment modalities such as targeted therapy in improving patient outcomes.

Dr. V. Hemalatha, Assistant Professor, coordinated the seminar and encouraged active student participation. A total of 24 students from IV Pharm D attended the session.

It was conducted to educate students on lung cancer, covering its two main types—NSCLC and SCLC—along with major risk factors such as tobacco use and air pollution. The presentation highlighted common symptoms and emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and screening. A specific part of the presentation explained how personalized treatments can effectively target genetic changes like EGFR, ALK, and ROS1, leading to better results and fewer side effects. The program successfully enhanced students’ understanding of lung cancer epidemiology and prevention.

The event concluded successfully with a thoughtful summary of the presentations and interactive discussions. It proved to be a meaningful and impactful initiative—educating the student community about lung cancer while inspiring them to take an active role in future health awareness efforts as pharmacists. The seminar fostered enthusiasm, deepened understanding, and cultivated a shared commitment to health education and cancer prevention.
