E Spark: Ignite Learning with ChatGPT & Google Colab

Overview
The SPIKES Club organized an interactive session titled “E‑Spark – Ignite Your Learning with ChatGPT & Google Colab.” on 22-01-2026 at Mini Auditorium. It aimed to introduce students to practical AI‑assisted learning using ChatGPT and Google Colab. The workshop focused on coding, debugging, and concept clarity through guided prompts and notebook execution.
Event Description
Dr. G. Harikrishnan, Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, coordinated the session. A total of 50 students participated actively and engaged with the demonstrations. The event was in two rounds that encouraged hands‑on practice and interactive learning. In Round 1, students translated problem statements into Python code using guided prompts. They executed the code live in Colab notebooks and observed immediate outputs. In Round 2, participants refined prompts to debug errors and improve logic clarity. Live demonstrations showed how students could move from doubt to prompt to code within minutes. The coordinator emphasized ethical use of AI tools and verification of outputs. Students explored use‑cases such as numerical problems, plotting, and simple data analysis. The session highlighted reproducibility through shared Colab links and collaborative learning.
Takeaways by Participants
Students reported improved understanding of prompt engineering for coding and concept learning. They gained hands‑on familiarity with Google Colab for writing, running, and sharing code. Participants appreciated enhanced debugging skills and logical reasoning with AI assistance. They expressed increased confidence in self‑learning and rapid experimentation. Feedback highlighted the clarity of demonstrations and immediate applicability of tools. Students valued the concise format and active engagement throughout the session. The organizers expressed gratitude to all participants for their enthusiasm and involvement. It encouraged students to integrate AI and cloud platforms into their academic workflow.
