The First Aid Force Club, the School of Paramedical Allied and Health Care Sciences (SOPAHCS) of MBU, organized an insightful event titled “Choking Management – Hands-On with Peers” on 11th September 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. The session saw the active participation of 55 students. It aimed at equipping students with crucial life-saving skills.
The event’s primary objective was to raise awareness about the importance of prompt intervention during choking emergencies and to provide hands-on experience in performing first aid. The session focused on empowering students with the confidence and ability to handle real-life choking situations. The workshop’s format combined both theoretical awareness and practical exercises, ensuring that participants could apply their knowledge immediately in emergencies.
Ms. M. Mohana Priya, Assistant Professor and Convener of the First Aid Force Club, led the event. She opened the session with an inspiring talk about the significance of first aid training and how it could save lives. She encouraged students to take part in both the awareness and skill-building activities actively. The workshop welcomed 55 participants, all of whom were eager to learn. During the event, students participated in peer-to-peer practice, where they performed key techniques like abdominal thrusts (Heimlich maneuver), back blows, chest thrusts for infants, and self-rescue methods. The interactive format allowed students to build confidence while learning from one another.
The event also included a unique awareness activity where students created placards with essential messages about choking management. These placards were taken to various classrooms, spreading awareness and emphasizing the importance of recognizing choking and acting fast. The practical session allowed students to collaborate and practice life-saving techniques in small groups, which helped strengthen their skills and teamwork.
The participants left the session feeling empowered and better prepared to respond in choking emergencies. They gained hands-on experience in performing life-saving maneuvers, and the interactive nature of the event boosted their confidence. The students learned that quick thinking and proper intervention can save lives, and that anyone, with the right training, can make a difference in an emergency.
The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Ms. M. Mohana Priya, who expressed her gratitude to the university management, faculty, and organizing team for their support. She also thanked the students for their enthusiastic participation and making the workshop a success.
