Bystander First Aid – Do’s and Don’ts: Promoting Responsible Practices

Event Perspective
The First Aid Force Club organized a workshop titled “Bystander First Aid – Do’s and Don’ts” on 23 February 2026. The session lasted one hour, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with active student participation. The workshop aimed to create awareness about safe and effective first-aid practices during emergencies.
The Role of bystanders
Ms. M. Mohana Priya, Assistant Professor, the faculty in charge, coordinated the workshop with dedication. A total of 50 students from allied health science programs attended the session. The students learned the importance of scene safety, calm response, and early activation of emergency services. The session explained common mistakes such as moving injured victims or giving food to unconscious persons. The participants practiced recovery positions and observed demonstrations of CPR techniques. The interactive discussions and real-life examples made the session engaging and informative. The workshop emphasized the critical role of bystanders in reducing risks before medical help arrives.
Impressions and Insights
The workshop successfully promoted responsible and safe first-response practices. The participants gained confidence in handling emergencies like nosebleeds, seizures, and minor cuts. They also appreciated the practical demonstrations and scenario-based activities during the workshop. Moreover, they developed teamwork and communication skills through group discussions and poster preparation. The feedback revealed that the students improved awareness of correct patient positioning and airway safety. The organizers noted enthusiasm and active involvement of the students throughout the session. The organizers expressed gratitude to the faculty, participants, and coordinators for their support. The workshop achieved its objective of training students in essential first-aid techniques. The event strengthened emergency preparedness and healthcare awareness among allied health students.
