Build Your First AI Assistant: Hands-on AI Assistant Building Workshop

The Data Club, the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, the School of Computing, organized an engaging hands-on program titled “Build Your First AI Assistant” on 23rd December 2025. With a focus on practical learning, the program brought together students eager to explore the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. The event was aimed at introducing participants to the fundamentals of AI through direct implementation. Its purpose was to help students design and deploy a simple Telegram-based AI assistant using Gemini AI and ChatGPT.

The event was coordinated by Ms. K. Sandhya, Asst. Professor, Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and witnessed the active participation of 58 students. The participants showed great enthusiasm and commitment throughout the session. They performed with focus and creativity, successfully completing the tasks and demonstrating their ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios. Their active involvement made the event interactive and rewarding.

The activity was conducted in a structured and hands-on manner. Students were guided step by step to build their own AI assistant, starting from understanding the basics of AI and natural language processing to integrating the assistant with Telegram. The importance of the event lay in its ability to simplify complex concepts and make them accessible through practical exercises. The session emphasized not only technical skills but also the ethical and responsible use of AI, ensuring that students understood the broader impact of these technologies.

The key takeaways for the participants were significant.
