Balancing Screens and Studies: Social Media Awareness

The Sports and Cultural Club of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized an awareness program titled “Impact of Social Media on Youth” on26th December 2025 at Room No. 221, CSE Block. The program was aimed at helping students understand the role of social media in their daily lives and how it influences their academic focus, personal growth, and social interactions. The objectives were to encourage mindful usage of digital platforms, highlight the effects of excessive online habits on health and concentration, and provide practical strategies for balancing technology with real-life priorities.
The event was coordinated by Dr. K. Hari Krishna, Associate Professor. Ms. V. Jyothi, Assistant Professor acted as the resource person. The participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the session. They engaged in discussions, shared their own experiences, and responded positively to the interactive activities. Their active involvement made the program more meaningful and impactful.
The session began with an introduction to the importance of digital awareness in today’s world. Ms. Jyothi explained how social media can shape the thinking patterns, sleep quality, and attention spans of young people. She also emphasized the importance of digital detox and peer support in managing online pressures. The activity was conducted in a simple and interactive manner, with real-life examples and group discussions that helped students connect the concepts to their own lives. The event highlighted the need for responsible online behavior, cyber safety, and the positive use of social media for academic and professional growth.
The key takeaways for the participants included a better understanding of the psychological and social impacts of social media, improved awareness of ethical online practices, and practical tips for managing digital distractions. Students also learned how to critically evaluate online content and use social media as a tool for learning and networking rather than just entertainment.
At the end of the program, the organizers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the resource person, faculty members, and all the students who participated.
