The Rural Development Club, in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Sciences, conducted a meaningful outreach event titled “Eco Rise” on 20th March 2025 at Narasingapuram Village. The initiative aimed to cultivate awareness regarding the harmful effects of plastic usage and to inspire environmentally conscious behavior among villagers and primary school students. Further, it also seeks to highlight the urgent need to reduce plastic consumption and introduce sustainable alternatives that are both practical and accessible.
The event was organized successfully under the guidance of Mr. B.V. Sai Trinath, Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, with enthusiastic support from student coordinators. Students who actively contributed to the event include P. Harsha Priya (III EEE-B), E. Venkatesh (III EEE-B), K. Hemanth Babu (IV EEE-B), B. Trisha (IV EEE-C), and B. Likitha (II EEE-B).
The event featured a series of impactful sessions that left a lasting impression on the community. It began with an interactive awareness talk that highlighted the harmful effects of plastic waste on soil, water sources, and biodiversity, using real-world examples to effectively communicate the urgency of the issue. This was followed by a hands-on workshop where villagers and schoolchildren were introduced to sustainable alternatives like cloth bags and biodegradable products, encouraging the adoption of environmentally conscious habits in their everyday lives.
The program commenced with an interactive session detailing the impact of plastic pollution on land, water bodies, and wildlife. Real-life examples and visual aids were employed to create a deep understanding among participants. This phase was followed by a hands-on workshop showcasing reusable and biodegradable products, such as cloth bags and natural packaging alternatives. Participants were encouraged to adopt these options in their daily lives.
The final segment featured a panel discussion involving faculty members, local leaders, and the organizing team. The dialogue emphasized the power of collective action and grassroots participation in driving long-term environmental change. Community members also shared insights and local strategies to curb plastic waste. This collaborative effort served as a stepping stone toward building an eco-conscious rural community. The success of “Eco Rise” reinforces the power of youth-led initiatives in championing environmental transformation.
